Author Agreement and Disclosure Policy

**IMPORTANT**: All authors listed on the proposal are required to complete the disclosure form and submit a bio by Wednesday, April 19, 11:59 p.m., Pacific Time. If ANY author does not complete their disclosure, the ENTIRE PROPOSAL will be administratively withdrawn. This is an important change to our policy, which previously stated that only the author would be removed.

Author Agreement

By submitting a proposal to present at the ASHA Convention, you explicitly agree:

  • If accepted, to adhere to the deadlines as detailed in the acceptance notification regarding additional information that is required, such as presentation materials, etc.
  • To provide appropriate evidence to support any claims related to efficacy, validity, or reliability of approaches to assessment or treatment.
  • To offer evidence-based content in a manner that does not ridicule, defame or demoralize individuals or groups.
  • To complete, and submit, by the stated deadline, the required disclosure form identifying any financial or nonfinancial relationship relevant to the content of your presentation, as defined in ASHA's guidelines concerning speaker disclosure.
  • To alert ASHA and update your disclosure submission if there are any changes in your financial and nonfinancial relationships that occur after your initial disclosure but prior to the presentation.
  • When including information about a specific product or service, to offer information on the theoretical framework, relevant evidence, and operational details.
  • When the content will be focused on a specific product or service and will not include information on similar or like products/services, to disclose that in the proposal submission.
  • To refrain from any promotion in the presentation.
  • That any research in which you participated and may be discussing in this presentation is in compliance with mandated national and institutional policies and procedures pertaining to animal and/or human subjects research.
  • To comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and to ensure the privacy of patients/clients by refraining from using names, photographs, or other patient/client identifiers in your presentation(s) without the patient's/client's knowledge and written authorization.
  • To follow the guidelines for crediting authorship for research presentations as outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
  • That no part of the presentation or materials (e.g. PPT, handouts) infringes upon any copyright or other intellectual property right of any third party.
  • If any part of my presentation or materials involve the performance or reproduction of any pre-existing work, that I am the owner of the copyright, or have obtained permission.
  • That the presentation and materials will contain nothing libelous, injurious, or untrue.
  • I grant to ASHA a perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive royalty free license for ASHA to use and host the Presentation and Materials for the ASHA Convention.
  • That I have full power and authority, free of any rights of any nature whatsoever by any person, to enter into this Agreement and to grant the license to ASHA in this Agreement.
  • That I shall indemnify and hold harmless ASHA and its agents, board members, employees, affiliates, successors, assignees and licensees from and against any claim, damage, liability, expense or loss, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs associated therewith, or with the enforcement of this indemnity, arising from any claim asserted against ASHA by any person or entity, arising from my actual or alleged breach of any of their representations and warranties in this Agreement or arising from the Presentation or Materials.

ASHA's acceptance of a proposal does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures. The deadline to complete the Author Agreement is Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

Presenting Author Agreement

If you are listed on the proposal as a presenting author, or expect to have any role in public presentation of the proposal (speaker, moderator, other), you must additionally agree to the Presenting Author Agreement. The Presenting Author Agreement specifically pertains to public presentation at the ASHA Convention, whether in person or in a virtual format. Presenters who do not agree to the terms of the agreement outlined below will not be allowed to present. Please ensure that all presenting authors for your session understand and agree to the terms in the Presenting Author Agreement by Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

Disclosure Policy

Everyone involved in the development and presentation of a proposal submission, or listed as an author for a presentation for consideration at an ASHA event, is required to complete a disclosure form indicating any financial or nonfinancial relationship relative to the content of the proposed session.

Author/presenter disclosures are a required practice for all ASHA approved CE Providers, in order to meet the ASHA Continuing Education Board’s Requirement 3: Transparency in Course Planning, Delivery, and Marketing. This requirement promotes transparency in the design, development, and presentation of courses offered for ASHA CEUs, and aligns ASHA practices with current practices among other professions, particularly in the continuing medical education arena.

A relationship is relevant if it could influence the information presented in the course and could be perceived as a conflict of interest by learners. Relevant relationships must be disclosed in the author/presenter disclosure form.

Relevant Financial Relationships Defined

Financial relationships are those relationships in which the individual benefits by receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, gift, speaking fee, consulting fee, honorarium, ownership interest (e.g., stocks, stock options, or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or other financial benefit. Financial relationships can also include "contracted research" in which the institution gets the grant and manages the funds and the individual is the principal or named investigator on the grant.

Please note that having a disclosable financial or nonfinancial relationship does not prevent you from speaking. Disclosing such relationships is intended to give attendees a more complete context in which to consider the information you provide. As a general guideline, err on the side of disclosure. Refusal or failure to participate in the author/presenter disclose process will disqualify you from being involved in the development of the session and from speaking at the ASHA Convention.

If your presentation is accepted, your disclosure will be included with the author information related to each session listed in the Program Planner/mobile app. Note that for financial relationships, dollar amounts are not disclosed.

In addition, you will be expected to provide disclosure information at the start of your presentation, verbally and visually (view sample disclosure slides), even if you have no relevant financial or non-financial relationships. We will provide additional guidelines for on-site disclosures after acceptance.

The deadline to submit disclosure forms is Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
